TRAINING

About our program

Amelia Stevens

I am the barn owner, 3 day eventer, coach-in-training and, most importantly, a mom of three. I’ve spent more than 25 years in the saddle and have built my experience through producing horses, competing, and working with horses of all different ages, backgrounds and levels of training. In 2016 I purchased a horse that a friend had rescued from an auction, where she was at risk of being sold for slaughter. I produced her up to the Preliminary level of eventing (1.10m) before finding her her forever home in Alberta. Her purchase price allowed me to put a down payment on my first 5 acre property where I ran a small training and sales program for the following 7 years. That experience gave me the opportunity to work with everything from young and green horses to more challenging projects, and taught me a lot. During that time, I also started my consignment business and developed a passion for professional equine photography and videography, allowing me to build a business around many different aspects of the sport I love. In 2023 we built our current beautiful facility in Sorrento B.C. Over the past three years, I’ve returned to competing and have continued producing multiple personal horses up to .85m in eventing and show jumping before finding them their perfect homes. I currently have three young warmbloods I’m producing, two of which I aim to produce up to the prelim/2* and continue to pursue my goals to compete at an upper level. I have recently completed my Equine Canada Registered Coach Status and will now continue working toward my Licensed Coach status, with the goal of completing that process by spring. This will allow me to continue developing my students both at home and when we travel off property to competitions. My goal is to build a program where riders of all skill levels have the opportunity to learn, develop confidence and work toward their own goals — whether that means simply becoming more comfortable in the saddle, competing, or developing a young horse of their own.
I’m incredibly excited to continue growing this program and, most importantly, to share the knowledge and experience I’ve gained over the last 25+ years with the next generation of riders.

Sophie Drysdale

Sophie currently serves as the head trainer at Copperview Equestrian. She has competed up to 1.10m in the jumper ring and has also competed in the hunter ring. With 10 years of experience working in the equine industry, Sophie has developed a deep understanding of how important, patience, trust, and communication are in training. Her experience includes working with horses labelled as 'difficult', as well as horses coming from rescue and neglect backgrounds. These experiences have shaped her approach to compassionate and individualized for each horse. Sophie is also a Registered Veterinary Technician, working at a local veterinary clinic. Her veterinary background gives her an added understanding of equine health and wellbeing, which she carries into every aspect of her training program. Sophie believes every horse is different and deserves to learn at their own pace. She prioritizes the horse's health and wellbeing through the training process, focusing on building trust and creating a strong relationship between horse and rider. Her goal is to help every horse become a confident, happy, and willing partner, both in and out of the arena. For Sophie, the best training comes from understanding the horse, developing trust, and building a partnership.
